Lionel Messi finally caught up with his friend Luis Suarez at the weekend, not socially, but in terms of his LaLiga Santander goal tally.
Now, the Argentine forward will be hoping to become the standalone leader in the Pichichi race when Barcelona take on Elche on Wednesday.
Currently Messi and former teammate Suarez are tied on 16 goals, but the odds on Messi stealing a lead are good with his record of five goals in four matches against Elche.
The Blaugrana, however, have been lacking efficiency this season and are requiring too many chances to score.
Messi, unsurprisingly, is the outlier as far as that statistic is concerned, with nine goals in his last six LaLiga Santander games.
The No.10 may need to keep that trend going if Barcelona are not to squander their opportunities against the team from the province of Alicante on Wednesday evening.
Curiously, Messi missed the first LaLiga Santander game against Elche this season with suspension, the first time in his Barcelona career that he had missed a league game for that reason.

he lives for the love of the game, his name is LIONEL messi..... he does not have weakness when it comes to playing football, his left leg gives you the goals you craved for, his right leg gives you that master class assist you needed, his chest controls the movement of the ball in the air, combination of both feets produce of one the greatest magic in football.....cause he is the greatest footballer that ever played the game..... this will be my story of Messi to my children
