Jack Colback has almost certainly played his last game for Newcastle United after being axed from Steve Bruce's 25-man Premier League squad.
The midfielder has one year to run on his contract and had hoped to win a place in Bruce's plans having been frozen out under Rafa Benitez.
However, despite training with the first-team and featuring during pre-season, Bruce has not included Colback in his squad for the new campaign.
It means the 29-year-old must now move abroad or drop down to League One if he is to play football before January.
Colback has not played for his hometown club since May, 2017 and spent last year on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Rolando Aarons has also been omitted from the squad despite impressing over the summer. The 23-year-old has two years to run on his contract.

This is what you gain when you ditch Sunderland for New castle
He could always go back to Sunderland. With Honeyman and Cattermole gone I'm sure the fans would love to see him there again. He'd get a great welcome?

Not good enough for Steve Bruce. Bit of a wake-up call for you there, Jack!

Always a bit sad when, to quote Steve Harper, "an old cricketeer leaves the crease, you never know whether he's gone". In Colback's case though, I think we do...
I'm pretty sure the song was written and performed by ROY Harper... and NOT Steve Harper... ex NUFC goalkeeper...!

Loved him at Forest, he would have come back but we couldn't afford him due to our 99 man squad.
I think we've released one of our 20 keepers so there might be a spot left.

He's not good enough for PL but is a local lad who loves the club, would run through a brick wall to play for them, they should do decent thing, do right by him, give him a free let him kickstart his career.
It's not a charity league. It's a professional sports league. Either you produce or your gone. Simple

Played for Sunderland. It might have got past Rafa but Brucie's on the ball. He knows what time it is.. At least he can go back down the road now, those gates are open all season...
