Jamie Carragher has hit back at fellow pundit Patrice Evra after the Frenchman took a swipe at him for his criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo was handed the captain's armband by Ralf Rangnick on Monday evening but he failed to galvanise his team-mates as they delivered another below-par display to lose 1-0 at home to Wolves.
The result has raised fresh questions over the Portuguese star's impact since returning to Old Trafford last summer, a question that Carragher addressed back in November during a heated debate with Roy Keane.
'You finish second and sign Ronaldo at 36 - you're not going to win the League in four years. If you sign someone at 36 it's to win right now,' Carragher stated, before asking: 'Are they any closer to winning the league?'
Those comments irked Evra, who felt the need to come to the defence of his former United team-mate.
While working for Amazon Prime, the Frenchman said: 'There's a lot of talk about this player and I really don't understand it.
'Some player like Jamie Carragher, he had 775 games, today Cristiano scored 801 goals. And those kind of people talk about Cristiano.
'Sometimes I just think people have to stay in their lane and I don't understand that hate.'
However, following Monday's match, Carragher couldn't help but bite back at Evra.
The Sky Sports pundit took to Twitter and wrote: 'Getting back out of my lane!'
Carragher has previously gone further with his criticism of Ronaldo, suggesting that the 36-year-old can be a 'passenger' when not delivering goals for his team.
'How can a club the size of Manchester United still rely on a guy who's nearly 37?' he previously stated.
'He was unbelievable, his goal record is unbelievable, but if he doesn't score he is a passenger in the game. You have to accept that, that's a fact.
'If Cristiano Ronaldo went four or five games without scoring, that's a massive problem for Manchester United.'

It's funny how we overlook the truth bcos it's against someone we love. You are blaming, criticizing Messi's impact at PSG. But u can't see any wrong in CR5's being at Man U. The truth is Man U was more reliable before Ronaldo. Stats can confirm that. They finished 2nd, and I remember they beat Man City, I think L/pool too. And didn't have a lot of problems beating teams like Wolves. Ronaldo is great. Any team would want him. But here is the problem with him. Like Carrager said, if CR5 isn't scoring then he is nothing. You would put a different player in his position and you can change the game. Ronaldo is a scorer. If he isnt scoring, he is nothing. That's the difference btn him and Messi. If Messi isn't scoring, he will be assisting, he will be in the midfield helping out. Ronaldo is MERELY a goalscorer.

When you have a player who only cares about his goals more than anything else in your team, you are bound to win nothing.

Caragher is completly true. When yous sign Ronaldo in his 37, its mean you want the trophy right now. Not next year because he is getting older. If after you sign him and you getting lower in the table, its really mean he is not the one you need. just as simple as that.

He scored 801 goals, now, how has that helped Man U.
