Jamie Redknapp believes that Manchester City are out of the Premier League title race following their 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United.
City have won the last two Premier League titles, but Pep Guardiola's side now find themselves 14 points behind leaders Liverpool with 16 games played.
Redknapp outlined the difficulties that City have endured of late, and stated that he feels that there has been too much disruption to the core of the team.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: 'City can't come back from 14 points. It's impossible. At the start of the year they didn't buy a centre-back when they lost Kompany. Then they had the injury to Laporte.
'Fernandinho then goes out of midfield. Rodri doesn't sense danger like Fernandinho. Silva's now coming to the end. They're the best side I've seen in the Premier League but they're just starting to get over the edge, whereas Liverpool haven't had that disruption.'
United took the lead through a penalty from Marcus Rashford, with Anthony Martial also getting on the scoresheet.
Nicolas Otamendi got a goal back for City in the closing stages but United held on to take all three points.
Although they are still capable of producing some breathtaking passages of play at times, City have been significantly more vulnerable defensively this season.
City's next league game sees them face Arsenal away next Sunday.

You Liverpool fans talk too much and too fast, every season each team will have a tough period, you guys haven't had y'all own so it will come. Remember after joy comes sorrow and better pray for one of y'all players not to get injured cause the minute y'all lose one player from that every week eleven y'all will struggle, we have already proved that y'all are nothing, we were one minute away from beating y'all but for a mistake by Rojo. The season isn't over as yet

Redknapp and pundits have been hammering this all along but guardiola for reasons best known to him chose to ignore this advice, maybe he is buoyed by his triple season that he think he can build a mansion without foundation!
