John Terry has revealed he left Aston Villa due to family reasons in 2021 - when speaking to snooker legend Stephen Hendry.
The English icon was part of Aston Villa's backroom staff between 2018 and 2021 - where he worked under Dean Smith. However, when Terry left his role, there was little explanation given as to why Terry walked away from the club.
However, when appearing on Stephen Hendry's Cue Tips, Terry said: "Listen, the reason I left Villa, I've not really said anywhere was a family reason. I had to come back home to be with my family - and support them!"
Terry, when leaving Villa in July 2021, spoke highly about the club and Dean Smith: "I will forever be indebted to the Gaffer for giving me the opportunity to start my coaching career at such a wonderful club. I have loved every minute of it and learnt so much.
“I can't thank Dean enough for the support and guidance he has provided me with and I'm sure he will continue to lead the club from strength to strength."
Terry didn't spend too long away from football, and come December 2021, he was back at Chelsea in a consultancy role for the academy, which was crucially part-time. Terry said: "I'm delighted to announce that I'm coming home.

"The flexibility is key for both myself and the academy as it allows me to continue and develop my own coaching skills and ambitions alongside other commitments."
Neil Bath, Chelsea's head of youth development, added: "He will be a great mentor for our players and a fantastic asset to our coaching staff.
"John's experience in the game, both as a world-class player and more recently as an assistant coach in the Premier League, will be invaluable for everyone in the building."
