Pundits have heaped praise on Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez despite his lack of opportunities in Pep Guardiola's starting XI.
The Argentine's arrival was largely overshadowed by the mega transfer of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund over the summer. Alvarez, 22, actually signed from River Plate in January but only moved at the end of last season.
Despite having to play second fiddle to the Norwegian goal machine, Alvarez has still chipped in with three goals this term - and he is impressing onlookers.
Speaking on BT Sport's coverage, former Manchester United and City midfielder Owen Hargreaves said: "For what they paid for him, this kid is worth five times that. You’re just waiting for an opportunity. In the appearances that he has had, he looks like a really good finisher."
Fellow former City man Joleon Lescott added: "He plays with so much intensity, I spoke to Sergio (Aguero) about him and he said he is a mix of him and Carlos Tevez. It is just unfortunate that Haaland is in the team because I think he would play a lot more minutes and score a lot more goals as well."
Peter Crouch also agreed that Alvarez is unlucky in the sense that he has the unenviable task of having to oust Haaland.
He said: "Alvarez starts at the majority of Premier League clubs. The only thing holding him back is that he is at Manchester City and he is a real talent. He has made the most of his chances when stepping into the shoes of Haaland and he has done well when he’s played. He looks lively and is not one of those players who is sulking because he is not playing, he comes in and has an impact."

If Julian Alvarez knows what's best for him he'll ignore all these noise and stay in Manchester city there's no better coach to learn and develop than Pep Guardiola. Remember Phil Foden? there were noises about him not playing yet he stayed today the nose is gone. Pep Guardiola always has got a plan . Bernado Silva will leave for Barcelona and so Phil Foden will take over his place then Alvarez will play in Phil Foden's place. Remember when David Silva was still in Manchester city? Bernado Silva played as a Winger when he left he took over where D.Silva left off next is Foden then Alvarez they're similar players all of them
