Jurgen Klopp gets into a spat in Germany as he criticises Mehmet Scholl

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit out at Mehmet Scholl, saying that the former Bayern Munich player knows as much about coaching as he does about car manufacturing.

Klopp took exception to comments Scholl made about Edin Terzic, the 38-year-old who was recently appointed as Borussia Dortmund's caretaker manager.

Terzic previously worked as a scout and assistant coach at Dortmund's youth academy, where he reported to Klopp, who was first-team manager.

As reported by BILD, Scholl had said of Terzic: 'There is not much in his words. It's like saying the sun will shine tomorrow. His analysis is not tangible.'

Klopp responded by saying: 'What is Mehmet Scholl's raison d'être to judge coaches? It's kind of like talking about car manufacturing. I have no idea about that either.'

The Liverpool boss added: 'Mehmet Scholl feels called to break the baton with young German coaches. I hate to comment on such things, but he always talks about people he doesn't know.'

Klopp was eager to point out Scholl's lack of impact as a coach. Scholl previously coached Bayern Munich's reserve team in two separate stints but didn't go on to coach at senior level.

And Klopp added: 'He tried it as a trainer, he couldn't do it, and now he's talking about it as if he had eaten the wisdom with spoons.

'He talks about how he can no longer hear all of this. This was the first time that one of the trainers spoke. How can you no longer want to hear something from someone who expresses himself for the first time?'.

Scholl spent the majority of his playing career at Bayern, winning eight Bundesliga titles, five German Cups and the Champions League. He also played 36 times for Germany.

This isn't the first confrontation that Klopp has been involved in this season.

He previously criticised Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, who he described as 'selfish' for wanting the Premier League to persist with clubs only being allowed three substitutes per game rather than five.

Speaking last month, Klopp told BT Sport: 'When we had the talk between the managers a week ago, it was 15-5 if not 16-4 for five subs, since then nothing happened.

'You need 14 votes but Chris Wilder said I am selfish. I think all the things he said are selfish too. But it was a similar situation for me at Mainz as well.'

In the same interview Klopp was heavily critical of BT Sport for choosing Liverpool to play at 12.30pm in the midst of a hectic schedule.

He said: 'I don't know how often I have to say it, but you pick the 12:30 kick offs.

'Between now and December there is one more Wednesday, Saturday. These are difficult times. I am just saying it how it is. Wednesday to Saturday 12:30 is really dangerous.'
