Jurgen Klopp's comments on Adrian as Liverpool are linked with Paulo Gazzaniga

Liverpool have been linked with a deadline day swoop for Tottenham keeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

Jurgen Klopp was forced to bring Adrian into his starting line-up against Aston Villa, after Alisson Becker suffered a shoulder injury in training.

The Reds boss confirmed that the Brazilian could be out of action until well after the international break, with a return not expected for six weeks.

"We were slightly fortunate but it is not that he can play against Everton," Klopp said.

"I don't want to put a time frame on it but it looks like four weeks could be possible.

"I think six weeks is maybe more likely but I don't know. So we have to further assess this thing and that is how it is."

Adrian endured a shocking evening in the Midlands, conceding seven times as the champions were thrashed 7-2 by Dean Smith’s men.

The Spaniard set the tone for a miserable night, when he made a mistake to gift the hosts the opening goal.

His performance has meant speculation has emerged over a potential move for Spurs stopper Gazaniga on the final day of the summer window.

The Independent report that Liverpool have made contact with Spurs and could look at a short term deal.

However, Klopp was fully supportive of Adrian following the catastrophic display vs Villa, claiming he wasn’t to blame for the heavy defeat.

“The first goal was not good but I don’t think he had anything to do with the other goals,” Klopp told reporters after the game. “We didn’t help him tonight.”

“He is a really good goalie. Last year we played 11 games with him and won pretty much all. Tonight our goalie was not the problem. The reaction to the first goal was not his problem, it was our problem.

“It is not often I have seen games like this. I am old enough to know strange things can happen in football. You could see in moments that in challenges Aston Villa wanted it more and that is something I saw and I don’t like.”
