Kaka admits the day he left Madrid was the 'best memory' of his time at the club

Former Real Madrid star Kaka has revealed that leaving the club was the best memory of his spell in the Spanish capital.

The Brazilian superstar made a £60.3million move from AC Milan to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009 arriving in the same window as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso.

Boss Manuel Pellegrini was handed an embarrassment of riches in the hope of closing the gap to Pep Guardiola's Barcelona who had been crowned European champions the previous season.

Kaka made an encouraging start to life in Madrid after six successful years in Milan but the Brazilian's form began to dip following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager in 2010.

He quickly slipped down the pecking order under Portuguese coach who preferred Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria.

It was all a far cry from his 2007 Ballon d'Or success as Kaka looked like a shell of the player that donned the red and black of AC Milan.

Kaka recently admitted that whilst he holds no ill-feeling towards the club, the best moment of his time in Madrid was the day he left the club.

"It may sound strange, but I prefer the day that it was confirmed that I was leaving," Kaka told Marca.

"I spoke with Florentino, and he told me that they saw me as a great professional who had done everything possible to achieve great results in Madrid. But the injuries and the few minutes that the coach gave me did not allow it.

"That was a great satisfaction because I felt that the doors of the club were open. That is why you will never hear me speak ill of Madrid or José Mourinho. In fact, when I met Florentino in the Champions League final in Paris this year, we embraced."

Kaka exited the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 after making 120 appearances while chipping in with 29 goals and 39 assists.

He went on to rejoin AC Milan for a year before calling time on his career after a three-year spell in MLS with Orlando City.
