Son Heung-min 'liked' an Instagram post explaining that Harry Kane is not bigger than Tottenham as the England captain's north London future was cast into further uncertainty this week.

Kane, 28, stunned the club by failing to report for pre-season duty on Monday, having earlier revealed his desire to seal a summer exit amid strong interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

Sportsmail has since revealed that Kane has just returned from a holiday in the Carribbean and faces a period of isolation.

The wantaway striker has now missed two consecutive days of pre-season training at the club's Enfield training base and it is understood that Kane now intends to make his return to the club in the coming days.

However, the precarious nature of the striker's position has had an unsettling effect on the club and Spurs team-mate Son appears to have 'liked' a post from a Tottenham fan account on Instagram outlining that the player is not bigger than the club.

The post contained a photo of Kane next to an image of Bill Nicholson - the club's most successful manager - with the caption '0 major trophies' under Kane and '26 major trophies' under Nicholson.

'A player is never bigger than a club,' the post read. 'Harry Kane FC' has 0 Trophies. Tottenham Hotspur has 26 Trophies.'

The Spurs fan account later made a statement on the South Korean interacting with the post, saying that although the 'like' could have been accidental, it outlines the ambiguity surrounding Kane's future.

While Kane's next steps remain unclear, Son has committed his future to Spurs, signing a contract extension earlier this summer.

The 29-year-old, alongside Kane, has been the club's standout performer in recent seasons, scoring 107 goals in 280 games and contributing 64 assists during his spell in North London.

City are expected to return for Kane before the window closes at the end of the month, although the Premier League champions are currently focused on landing Aston Villa star Jack Grealish in a £100million deal.
