Key figure of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal inner circle quits in shake-up

Arsenal first-team assistant coach Steve Round has left the club by mutual agreement.

Round joined Mikel Arteta's coaching staff when the Spaniard took charge of the club in December 2019.

The 53-year-old, who had two years left on his contract, helped Arsenal win the FA Cup in his first season at the club as well as winning the 2020 Community Shield.

An experienced coach, Round has previously worked with Middlesborough, Derby County, Newcastle United, Manchester United, Everton, Aston Villa, as well as the England national team.

In a message that was sent to the club's colleagues, Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar thanked Round for his contribution over the last four years and wished him well for the future.

He said: 'As preparations for the new men's season get underway we can confirm Steve Round has left the club by mutual agreement.

'Steve joined the club as part of our new coaching staff in December 2019 when Mikel started his role as Head Coach.

'During his time with us, Steve played an integral role working with our men's first team players and helping the significant progress which we have made in recent seasons.

'We thank Steve for his contribution to Arsenal Football Club and wish him and his family all the best of health and happiness.'
