Klopp confirms captain Jordan Henderson sustained a 'serious' hamstring injury

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Jordan Henderson sustained a 'serious' hamstring injury during Liverpool's Premier League game against Newcastle.

The German manager was forced to substitute Henderson in the 71st minute of their 2-1 victory over the Magpies on Wednesday evening.

Klopp expressed his concern over Henderson's injury after the game and said it was 'not helpful' to have another player ruled out of action.

The German manager could be without Henderson for a pro-longed period of time after he injured himself during Liverpool's victory over Newcastle on Wednesday evening.

Speaking after the game, Klopp told BT Sport: 'We have another problem with Hendo. He left after feeling his hamstring, that is obviously not helpful.'

Klopp has been without Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones for various parts of the the 2022-2023 Premier League campaign so far.

Thiago and Oxlade-Chamberlain were all sidelined before the season even kicked off - causing Klopp a selection headache from the get-go.

Ibrahima Konate also suffered a knee injury in pre-season. While Diogo Jota tweaked an old hamstring injury in Thailand.

Joel Matip sat out training on the Friday before the Crystal Palace game with a groin problem. Joe Gomez was only fit enough to be a substitute. While Roberto Firmino couldn't even make the bench.

However, things looked positive for Klopp ahead of Liverpool's clash with Manchester United as Firmino was deemed fit. Henderson was available and Gomez was given the all-clear.

But, Henderson has returned to the injury bench following Liverpool's clash with Newcastle. It was not yet been determined how long the 32-year-old will be out of action but Klopp referred to his injury as serious.

'Obviously Hendo's hamstring [injury] is not helpful.' The Liverpool manager went on to speak about the severity of his injury by saying it was: 'That serious that he couldn't carry on.'

Therefore, as it stands, Liverpool have just three midfielders fit and available for selection. Those include: Fabinho, James Milner and Harvey Elliott.
