Klopp hints Kops at Anfield are maybe better than Dortmund's famed Yellow Wall

Jurgen Klopp admits he cannot explain how Liverpool supporters generate the atmosphere he believes may even outstrip Borussia Dortmund's famed Yellow Wall.

Klopp has embraced the “power of Anfield” since arriving at the club in October 2015.

The Reds boss has subsequently overseen a succession of famous European nights, including a memorable 4-3 win over his former club Dortmund in April 2016.

Liverpool produced arguably their greatest-ever performance by beating Barcelona 4-0 to reach the Champions League final last season, and have been unbeaten in the Premier League at home for almost three years.

And when asked what aspect of Liverpool he liked most, Klopp responded: “The stadium and the atmosphere.

“I didn't like the atmosphere at the beginning but I knew what we could do with that. I loved the stadium from the beginning and I loved the atmosphere in the meanwhile.

“The power of Anfield is incredible, I have to say. I worked for Dortmund, which is really, really special. And Mainz I would say is like a little Dortmund, when I was there what an emotional environment that was.

“Then I come here, and those special European nights, I have no clue how the people are doing that but it's really special. I love that.”

Klopp was in conversation at Anfield recently with Chuckie Online on the latest JD In The Duffle Bag podcast.

In a wide-ranging interview, the subject of whether the Reds boss was obsessed with winning was approached.

“I like it, but being obsessed, I'm not sure,” he said. “The first thing I learned in life is you can try your best and it's still possible you can lose. I accepted that early.

“I love winning. But getting obsessed with winning? No.

“Maybe people don't like to hear this, but I'm Christian and I'm fine with other people winning as well.

“I want to win desperately but if not and there's a good reason for it, then I can accept it.”

Klopp was speaking before the current suspension of the Premier League due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

Despite Liverpool being within touching distance of a first title in 30 years, the Reds boss earned praise for his subsequent statement in which he underlined the health and safety of people was far more important than football.

And speaking on the podcast, he said: “It's a game, it's not that serious actually. It's just a game. There are more important things in life.

“Try to stay cheeky a little bit, enjoy it if possible at least during the week, enjoy the game.

“After that start preparing the next one so you can ensure you enjoy it again. It's not complicated.”
