Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was happy to take a draw against Liverpool, but admitted they “could have done more to win the game.”
The Partenopei are the only team to defeat Liverpool this season and after the 1-1 draw at Anfield on Tuesday, they are unbeaten in two matches against the reigning European champions.
“We knew it would be a very difficult match,” he told UEFA.com after the match. “They haven’t lost in a very long time."
Liverpool would have secured the top spot with a win, but Dries Mertens silenced the home crowd when he opened the scoring after 21 minutes in the first half.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men didn’t manage to hang on to the lead and Dejan Lovren equalised after 65 minutes, but Koulibaly is satisfied with the one point.
“A draw is a very good result, even if we could have done more to win the game. But we played a great match and we can be happy,” he added.
Napoli are now one point away from the knockout stages of the tournament and are playing bottom-placed Genk in the last round.
