Chelsea missed a golden chance to sign World Cup player of the tournament frontrunner Kylian Mbappe during his teens - with his mother putting them in their place

Fayza Lamari was not best pleased when her son, now 23, was asked to return for a second trial at Chelsea once he had got to grips with tracking back.

Former Chelsea scout Daniel Boga told the story in full to The Athletic, detailing just how highly Fayza had rated her son's footballing ability.

Boga explained: "You know English football — you tackle, you track back players when you lose the ball. He wasn't like that. When he lost the ball, he stopped playing.

"Chelsea said, 'We want to see him again and we want to see this part of his football'.

"But then the mum said, 'No, we won't come again'. I was translating. She said, 'Tell them, he won't come back. If you want to sign him, you sign him now'. And she said, 'In five years' time, you will come back for him for £50million'. She said, 'Translate that'."

Not only was Fayza right about her son's rise to the top, but he signed for PSG from Monaco for an estimated total fee of £154million - a record for a teenager.

Not only that, Mbappe came close to joining Real Madrid last summer which would've seen him earn £800,000 a week - before deciding to stay in France.

Mbappe, who will be looking for a first Ballon d'Or triumph in 2023, has been linked with a Premier League switch since his Chelsea trial - and his a huge fan of Jurgen Klopp.

He told the Telegraph back in May: "We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit.'

He continued: "I talked to Liverpool because it's the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don't know why, you will have to ask her!

"It's a good club and we met them five years ago [too]. When I was in Monaco I met them. It's a big club."
