Leeds fans mock Munich Air Disaster and abuse Ferdinand following Man Utd defeat

Leeds fans aimed sick taunts about the Munich Air Disaster at Manchester United supporters inside Old Trafford.

The chants could be heard from the away section early in the second half. It is unclear if they were provoked, although United fans are believed to have taunted their rivals over paedophile Jimmy Savile’s Yorkshire connections and there were claims that a Turkish flag was also thrown into the away end.

Two Leeds fans were killed in Istanbul in 2000 before a UEFA Cup tie against Galatasaray.

Footage has also emerged of Leeds fans chanting that Manchester United stars Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho ‘let the country down’. The two missed penalties in the final of the European Championship.

Earlier, a minute’s applause for former players, staff and fans from both clubs who have died during the pandemic passed off without any issues.

But after the game, Leeds supporters waiting to be allowed out of the stadium taunted former United and Leeds defender Rio Ferdinand as he was on air working as a pundit for BT Sport, calling him a ‘s**t scum b*****d’.
