Jack Harrison has revealed he received a ticking off from old friend and mentor Frank Lampard for allegedly singing a song mocking him after Leeds United won promotion to the Premier League.

The 'stop crying Frank Lampard' song had become popular with Leeds fans during the 2018-19 season when Marcelo Bielsa controversially sent spies to watch Lampard's Derby County squad train.

To the tune of the Oasis song 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out', the chant went: 'All of the spies/Are hidden away/Just try not to worry/You'll beat us some day/We beat you at home/We beat you away/Stop crying Frank Lampard.'

However, Lampard's Derby had the last laugh when they defeated Leeds in the Championship Play-off semi-finals and even Lampard was happy to sing the song during the post-match celebrations.

But Derby failed to win promotion, losing the Play-off final to Aston Villa, and when Leeds did finally secure promotion as champions at the end of the 2019-20 season, the chant made another appearance.

It was a bit awkward for Leeds player Harrison, who was helped out by Lampard as the former England midfielder saw out the final months of his playing career at MLS side New York City.

Now Harrison has recounted the story, which involved Lampard accusing him of joining in with the song as Leeds' champagne-soaked celebrations got into full swing.

'It's so funny. During that time, Frank was the manager of Derby and all the Leeds fans came up with this chant, 'Stop crying Frank Lampard' and in the end he was the one signing it in the changing room after he beat us in the play-offs,' Harrison said in a live event with Signathon.

'The Leeds fans were not happy about that at all. After we got promoted, we were at the stadium and everyone was celebrating outside the stadium and the fans started singing this song again.

'After everything had settled down, Frank texted me saying "congratulations, you've done really well but I saw you singing that song."

'I said, "No, I wasn't singing, I promise!"

Leeds have since established themselves in the Premier League and Sunday saw them win 2-1 at Norwich City to ease early season relegation fears.

Harrison was in the same New York team as Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa when a young player and says he learned so much from sharing a dressing room with them.

'I was lucky because I got to see how Frank Lampard and all these top guys conducted themselves, not only on the pitch but off it too,' he said.

'That was something really inspiring to me. It was more than just football, it was the diet, the physiotherapy afterwards, just looking after your body.

'Just everything that comes with being a professional, I think Frank Lampard was probably the best at this and I really tried to implement a lot of what he does into my own career as well.

'With Frank, it's his work ethic and his technique being able to finish the ball, everything that he did off the pitch as well was something I admired.'
