I watched Harris from 1966 on. The biggest difference with today's players is that Harris REFUSED TO SHOW HE WAS HURT or feign injury. The exact opposite of weaklings today... Harris was too proud to allow an opponent the pleasure of seeing him in pain, even if he was hurting bad. The ONLY time I saw Harris receive lengthy treatment and show real distress was when Charlie George at Arsenal stamped on his chest and left him coughing blood.

Everyone complaining about the injuring the players on purpose clearly only reads the headlines. He was a footballer with a sense of humour, rare nowadays.

For a while, Harris played alongside Marvin Hinton. Hinton was all smooth and silky defensive skill, gliding over the turf and with heading ability and delicacy of touch to almost rival that of Tottenham's supreme heading-artist, Alan Gillian. He was Chelsea's Bobby Moore-lite. It was impossible to imagine greater opposites than the pairing of Harris and Hinton.
