Leonardo has assured the Paris-Saint Germain squad that Kylian Mbappe will remain at the club for this season.

The sporting director reportedly made the assertion to the PSG dressing room, but Mbappe still believes his future is with Real Madrid, according to Cadena SER.

Sources have also told the Spanish media outlet that Mbappe himself has confirmed to his team-mates that he will remain in Paris for one more season.

Mbappe has been constantly linked to a move to the Spanish giants but this summer has seen the noise intensify because of the 22-year-old's stalled contract negotiations in Paris.

The World Cup winner has entered the final year of his current contract, with PSG reportedly unable to persuade him to pen a new deal to keep him at the club beyond next summer.

The tantalising prospect of lining up with Neymar and Lionel Messi may have influenced Mbappe's decision to stay at PSG one more season, as the club's chances of winning the Champions League title they so desperately crave have been significantly boosted by the Argentine icon's arrival.

Earlier this month, Mbappe took to social media to welcome Messi to the club. He shared pictures of him hugging the Barcelona legend with the caption: 'Welcome to Paris, Leo.'

But Mbappe, who has scored a remarkable 133 goals in 173 appearances in all competitions since signing from Monaco in 2017, has previously intimated he is keen on joining Real Madrid.

With Real's extensive financial problems, they may be seeking a delayed move for Mbappe as he could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season should he not agree a new contract at PSG.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is reportedly set to travel to Madrid for discussions with the Spanish side over Mbappe's future.
