Barcelona are set to hold talks with Robert Lewandowski over his wages for the 2023-24 season as the club look to make changes in attack.
Spanish outlet Sport report that Barca's sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta are so to meet the striker's representative Pini Zahavi, who is scheduled to visit the club next week.
While the former La Liga champions still consider Lewandowski to be an important player for the team, they would take into account the fact that the veteran forward will turn 36 this year. Xavi is on a mission to bolster his team's attack ahead of the next season and will look to sign multiple attacking players.
Lewandowski is reportedly playing for his future as Barcelona prepare for a summer fire sale, with only three stars safe from the chop.
Barcelona are set to refresh their squad in the summer after an underwhelming season in which they are poised to finish a distant second to Real Madrid.
Their wage cap has been set at £174.4m by LaLiga - a colossal reduction on the £553.9m they were permitted to spend in February 2023.
They will need to shift players and while Lewandowski is one of the world's best strikers, his form this season has not justified his enormous wages.
He will earn £22.5m over the course of this season, with that set to rise to £27.7m next campaign.
According to The Athletic, only Lamine Yamal (16), Pau Cubarsi (17) and Gavi (19) have 'untouchable' status.
They represent the next generation of La Masia graduates and it is far easier to keep such players on diminished salaries compared to long-established stars.
According to Sport, Blaugrana sporting director Deco along with president Joan Laporta is all set to meet the striker's representative, Pini Zahavi, who is scheduled to visit the club next week.

The Polish striker, who arrived at the Catalan club from Bayern Munich in 2022, is once again the team's highest goalscorer this season with 24 strikes to his name. As per the contract he signed two years ago, Lewandowski's wage is supposed to increase to €30 million (£26m/$32m) for the 2024-25 campaign, however, Barcelona will try to negotiate the increase in wages of the player as they are set to meet his agent.

They agreed to the contract knowing his age and knowing his skills would diminish. THEY NEED TO SUCK IT UP AND PAY THE MAN WHAT THE CONTRACT STIPULATES. They have a history of paying exorbitant salaries to players without adequate planning. He was legitimately the best player in Europe twice and won them La Liga last year. Players aren’t cattle to be sold willy nilly by vacating a contract. This is the team that DUMPED LIONEL MESSI. Shame on them.
