Lifelong Everton fan and boxer Tony Bellew has admitted that Liverpool deserve to be handed the Premier League title, labelling them as one of the best sides he's ever seen.

The Reds were in touching distance of their first title in 30 years before the COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to the football season.

It remains unknown when, or if, the Premier League will resume, placing doubt over Liverpool's title victory.

However, with a 25-point gap separating Jurgen Klopp's side and their nearest challengers, Manchester City, Bellew believes that they should be awarded the Premier League title.

"My opinion which isn't worth much on football but give them the title. Liverpool deserve the title now, they won it in November in my opinion, give it them immediately so they can celebrate it in their own gardens and houses," Bellew told Sky Sports' The Football Show.

"All jokes aside, they deserve the title. They're the best team, I don't want to say in the world, but possibly they are. They're unbelievable, World champions and European champions. All jokes aside, you just have to congratulate them and applaud them, they've been unbelievable.

"They're one of the best football teams I've ever seen and that pains me like you would never know."

On his personal rivalry with Liverpool as an Everton supporter, Bellew added: "I actually felt quite sad (when Liverpool lost the Champions League final in 2018). As you all know, my brother was a mad Kopite and followed them everywhere.

"I used to be the worst, bitter Everton fan, I was bad, I was infected. After losing my brother, it's gone. I'm not going to say I'm happy to see them win everything or I'm proud or anything stupid. When we play them, I want to beat them and absolutely kill them.

"When they're winning and doing so well, part of me is kind of happy, which is very hard to say."
