Lionel Messi has flirted with his post-football future - by making his astonishing acting debut in Argentine comedy-drama Los Protectores ('The Protectors').

The 36-year-old confirmed his move to Inter Miami earlier this month, but is now making more headlines after his memorable appearance in the show.

Los Protectores follows the journey of three football agents trying to escape bankruptcy and build their careers in a challenging industry.

In the scene, one of the agents proposes a ludicrous business deal to Messi which would see him play for different Argentinian football clubs each day in alphabetical order, potentially expanding to the rest of the world.

Unsurprisingly, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is unimpressed, saying: 'Well, it seems that you are uneducated. How did you come to offer a business to me here? You didn't talk to me about this, did you? Why did you bring me here?'

Messi, who is playing himself in the show, thought he was attending the meeting to discuss a different project.

Eventually, one of the other agents manages to calm down the Argentina captain, and they agree to run a scheme helping help young footballers from the nation who want to move to Europe.

The show is available to watch on Star+ and Messi's cameo is in the second season.

It remains to be seen whether he will act again in future, but for now, he has a different assignment on his hands as he is tasked with helping David Beckham's Inter Miami off the foot of the MLS' Eastern Conference.

The club plan to unveil him and Sergio Busquets on 16th July. Messi said he is 'very excited' to join his new side.
