Liverpool are beginning to accept that Trent Alexander-Arnold is not going to sign a new contract at the club and will soon leave, according to a report.
The Reds defender is out of contract at the end of the season, with speculation over his future rife and seemingly little progress being made in contract negotiations.
He has spent his entire career with the club, becoming one of the best passers in world football, and Madrid's interest in his services has been little secret over the last few months.
While he could still sign a new deal at Anfield, it is looking more and more as though he will leave the club, with the 26-year-old allowed to speak to other clubs in January and move for free at the end of the season.
According to Marca, Arne Slot's side are growing increasingly worried that no new deal will be agreed, with Real Madrid keeping a close eye on the situation.
The report suggests that Madrid have been long planning their January business, with work accelerating in the last few days due to it being the international break.
Madrid are thought to believe that Liverpool may be willing to do business in January to recoup any kind of fee for one of their most-important players.
Alexander-Arnold is not the only concern, with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also out of contract at the end of the year.
Salah issued almost a plea for negotiations earlier this season when he suggested there had been no talks, with there still no sign of any agreement with any of the three players.
Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool in 2006, while Van Dijk signed in 2018 and Salah 2017.
Between them, they have made 957 appearances for Liverpool (Alexander-Arnold 319, Van Dijk 279, Salah 359).
For Madrid, first-choice right back Dani Carvajal suffered a season-ending knee injury during his side's last game, with manager Carlo Ancelotti now scrambling to try and find a replacement.
Alexander-Arnold is the club's first-choice pick to replace him from a transfer standpoint, while the likes of Jeremie Frimpong are also admired.
It is understood, however, that Frimpong's contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until 2027, meaning it would be easier to do business with Alexander-Arnold due to the limited involvement Liverpool could have in the deal.
It is, however, thought that Madrid will only look to make a winter move if internal solutions don't work out.
Madrid are also reported to be keen to sign a left-footed centre back.

Liverloop would be fools if they rejected a move in jan, look at mbappe.. PSG are still crying till today and they have only their arrogance to blame
The only way to make Madrid deal with us by giving us players we need too from their squad. Nice move

Each time I hear Trent, I remember "corner taken quickly".

Reduce Salah wages, Van Dijk wages and offer Trent a new contract (350k) with a release clause of around 100 million pounds in case Madrid want him. And if Trent rejects this only to join Los Blancos as a free agent (Liverpool gains not a single coin from their own academy product), He (Trent) will be viewed as a traitor and it'll rage Liverpool fans all over the world. 🌎

you can't compare mbappe situation with the Trent situation mbappe have always wanted to leave, PSG kept begging him with new deals and excessive payment he never deserved as for trent Liverpool won't beg him to stay but we can't let him go in January cause of the ambition we have as a club we can't let a key player leave when we are very much in competition for titles this season.....he can go for Free in the summer after all we never bought him he came from the academy and he has generated income for the club while doing his best for the club. so Liverpool are not fools if they let him go for Free

TAA don't destroy your career what you have and is going to have in lfc you will never have that in Madrid yes respect long carrier look at you. a baby with captain badge you should wait to become another Gerrard but days game is about money not honor
Playing for madrid is honor, we respect Liverpool as one of the greatest teams in football history but playing for the famous white shirt trumps that. It's not money it's a greater experience and chance to be part of a greater history!

Bradley can defend more than Arnold…. It’s just I love Arnold. Liverpool is different from Barcelona. I so much respect Liverpool to some level that they don’t build team on a player, secondly if you leave the team today they will never come for you again unless if you go out on loan. If Arnold leave today Liverpool will never miss him. Countinho leave Liverpool and Liverpool still remain liverpool. Fernando Ellino Torres move to Chelsea, liverpool still remain liverpool. Where is Mane, firmino, Henderson, Fabio, wijnadum today ?? If Arnold leave today liverpool will continue to shine ✨

Use what you get and get what you want, we need him and we pay the money but Madrid always looking for free transfers despite having the money
Madrid won't do panick deals, they won't be desperate. Use what you have to get what you want doesn't mean you be desperate and overspend. The saddest thing is united won't improve him too.

This should be peanuts for RM. They even want to do a favour to Liverpool: let's make this deal in January so you can recoup some of your investment (money wise ofc)!

Once a player has less than a year to run down his contract, he has the upper hand and not the club. As simple as that!

You know his preference was real Madrid. United was desperate, paying €62 million for a player with only a year left on his contract. At united we all wish he can improve he buh with this united, his value will drop.
