Liverpool are in talks to sign Wolves prospect Alvin Ayman.

The 16-year old, who can play in midfield or at centre back, joined Wolves' academy from Bradford City and has made such progress that manager Gary O'Neil has already included him in first team squads to gain experience.

He travelled with Wolves' first team for their 5-1 defeat to Premier League champions Manchester City in May.

Despite that, Ayman is now close to leaving Molineux for the chance to play for Liverpool with the two clubs discussing terms.

A number of Premier League sides have been following the teenager, who figured in midfield for much of Wolves U17's run to the Premier League Cup final, but Liverpool's track record for giving youngsters a chance to break through into their first team has appealed over the competition.

Wolves have had Premier League interest in a number of their academy stars who have also been recognised at international youth level.

Chelsea are keen on Ayman's team mate right back Wes Okoduwa. Negotiations are continuing over compensation.
