Having climbed into the top four right at the end of the season, Liverpool can look forward to Champions League football next term.
They may not have been able to defend their Premier League title but, having slumped as low as eighth in March, they managed to salvage a campaign which looked doomed at one stage.
Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp and the club hierarchy are now faced with a daunting rebuild. The last few months have revealed a number of structural issues with the squad.
With Euro 2020 looming on the horizon, they have a limited amount of time to get deals done before the inevitable lull in transfer activity.
As things stand, it appears that at least one signing could be made before the start of the tournament.
Here’s Wednesday’s Liverpool transfer round-up with all the latest developments.
Ibrahima Konate medical completed
Liverpool’s interest in RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate has been well documented and, given their defensive injury crises this season, it certainly makes sense.
According to Fabrizio Romano, his medicals are all done and dusted and the signing could be announced in the next few days.
Konate has a release clause of €35m (£30.3m), which would leave Leipzig with little choice in the matter.
Speaking earlier this month, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff told Sky Germany: “No decision has been made yet. There is an exit clause.
“That’s why we don’t sit in the driver’s seat. He is a player we want to keep.”
Ruben Neves available for £35m
Liverpool have long been credited with an interest in Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves and, as reported by The Athletic, he could be moved on this summer as part of a squad overhaul at Molineux.
What’s more, it looks like he could be available for a relatively reasonable £35m fee.
Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders worked with Neves at Porto, so the Portugal international already has some connection to the club.
He has also drawn the attention of Manchester United, however, so Liverpool will have to monitor the situation closely.
Wolves signed Neves in 2017 for around £15.8m and, having won promotion from the Championship in his first season in England, he has been invaluable in helping them to become an established Premier League team.
Ozan Kabak to return to Schalke
While Liverpool fans will be delighted to see the Konate transfer nearing completion, Ozan Kabak may not be so pleased.
Liverpool do not intend to make his loan from Schalke permanent.
Included in his loan deal is an option to buy for £18m plus add-ons, but Liverpool have decided against it. With Konate set to provide them with another option at centre-back, they will presumably look to invest the money elsewhere
Kabak has made 13 appearances in all competitions since arriving in February and was hoping to remain at Anfield.
He has been informed of Liverpool’s intentions and is now in dialogue with other clubs, including Leipzig.

I FEEL for this LAD FROM DAY ONE, Because I already knew it might END IN TEARS. KLOOP IS A GREEDY COACH, he won't swap anybody for VVD. KABAK BETRAYED his club when they needed him most, just to join Liverpool, now they re raligated. And Liverpool wants to trow him away for his not up to their level, what about the days he saved their ass?? Same shitt will happen to KONATE because KLOOP will never bench VVD for any diffender which means KONATE will play FA CUPS AND CAROBA CUPS. PEOPLE SAID LIVERPOOL STRUGGLED THIS SEASON BECAUSE OF INJURIES, BUT ITS A FAT LIE. They struggle because they play same squard week in week out. VVD was there when Aston villa trashed them. Madrid has more injuries but finished SECOND. last session Manchester City has injuries and finished second. They used academy CB Which kloop never wanted to, until it became worse, he now uses willams and Phillips. But they said pep never used acedemy but spend billions on players, kloop was so jealous of city that he overpriced VVD when he was at Southampton, same thing with maguire whan he was at leciester if pep really spend billions, he would have av bought VVD at any cost because they've got the cash but no, he promoted García instead. Now go records, currently, no EPL'S team has won more throphy with acedemy players than Manchester City. TREAT KABAK LIKE A PLAYER.

Sometimes I wonder whether people like the one who wrote this, speaks because someone is forcing them to do so or the is a problem with their thinking. Do you even understand anything about buying a player and loaning one. Clearly you don't know much about the off field events in football. Also what position is konate playing that you are saying Klopp will bench him for VVD. Don't be fooled by the likes you have mate. Most people on this platform are under age and will like anything they see. Come again, this time as a football fan and not fanatism. Thank you

what are you even saying.... they would have been relegated with it without him and if if klopp won't trade anyone for VVD why is he buying konate!!!! fact is klopp doesn't like him or doesn't have faith in him...we only went for him cos he was the only option we had in the time of crises, he can't just sign a player for the sake of it so quit blaming him or the club for any action they take because it was optional for them to buy him and they are not buying him so??
