It is testament to just how good Manchester City are that Liverpool still trail them on 91 points with two games to go.
To put that into context, the Reds would have won the top-flight title in 33 of the previous 37 seasons with that haul.
It is, of course, still possible for Jurgen Klopp's side to win their last two games, finish on 97 points and still not win the league.
This year's title race has been widely regarded as the most exciting in a generation, given the quality of the top two teams and the prolonged neck-and-neck battle.
Of the four occasions which Liverpool's points tally would have one the league, only three were 38-game seasons.
Manchester United's 1994 Premier League win, spearheaded by 18 goals from Eric Cantona, was in the era of 42-game campaigns.
Chelsea feature twice on the list – firstly under Jose Mourinho and then Antonio Conte. In 2005 they returned their highest points total with 95 before coming in just two points shy two years ago with the Italian at the helm.
Manchester City, meanwhile, appear to have picked up where they left off last season.
Last year saw the first team to notch a century when Pep Guardiola's men stormed away with the title.
And while they will fall two points short of that if they win their last two games, it would still be the second-highest winning total of all time – behind their own record set last term.

You still have to consider that its been a 2 team race since Christmas. Arsenal Chelsea and United haven't turned up. Tottenham were being Tottenham. Even the relegation has been dull this season with 2 teams relegated with 45 games to go. Normally we are used to seeing last game drama on who will drop. Its not been the most competitive league.

It's been a crazy season and i can't believe there are only 2 games left, it's gone so quick........been some great games though and the constant swapping of 1st and 2nd over the last few months has been annoying but thrilling, each week waiting for Liverpool to slip up only for them to go back 2 points clear, i'm glad we play Leicester after they play Newcastle, when City have to win, they usually do and chasing has been what we've been used to in previous title wins apart from last season........it is incredible to think that since the start of 2016/17 season City have amassed 270 points while scoring 276 goals in 112 games in the premier league.

I have to admit even though I am a lifelong Man Utd fan both of these two teams have been absolutely brilliant this season. Both teams and their managers pep and klopp deserve plaudits for how good they have been this season. I think City will win the league and as an Englishman I hope Liverpool win the champions league as they deserve to after a brilliant season. Well done to pep and klopp from a lifelong Man Utd fan
