Raphael Varane is yet to make his Manchester United move official but Lucas Vazquez knows they won't be team-mates next season, paying tribute to the defender in a farewell post.

The Frenchman is all set to complete his Old Trafford switch after the club confirmed they had agreed a Β£42m deal to bring the World Cup winner to England.

Varane has spent a decade with Los Blancos and leaves behind a crew of long-time team-mates, having spent six years playing alongside Vazquez.

The centre-back has lifted 18 trophies with Madrid, sharing the glory with Vazquez for 11 and lifting three Champions Leagues alongside the Spaniard – who was compelled to pay tribute to his team-mate even before he's left the Bernabeu.

'It has been a great pleasure to play with you during these years, thank you for everything we have achieved together and what we have experienced,' Vasquez wrote on Instagram, attaching three shots of the pair together.

'We will miss you amigo, I wish you the best in your new phase.'

Vazquez himself has been consistently linked with Man United, with Chelsea also reported as a potential destination for the winger this summer.

However, he is set to stay and fight for a place in Carlo Ancelotti's plans for the 2021-22 campaign, having signed a new three-year deal with the Spanish giants in June.

Madrid have been resigned to losing Varane this summer, as they look to avoid losing him on a free next year, with the club in desperate need of funds after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The French star will be a massive addition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose back-four now looks to be one of the most powerful in Europe.
