Luis Enrique all but rules himself out of Tottenham job – ‘I wouldn’t go to any Premier League team’

Former Spain and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has taken shots at the Spanish media following his exit from the job, while also dropping clues about his future in management.

‘Lucho’ is a highly controversial figure in Spain, and does not mind showing his personality. His spiky relationship with the media did not help matters, and he has told SER Gijon (via Relevo) that he does not read the Spanish press anymore.

“Since the World Cup ended, I haven’t read the Spanish press, I haven’t seen social networks, I only read the English press. You can’t pretend or like everyone or control what they say about you. The important thing is to be calm and enjoy the things you like”

He did not stop there, referring to them with derogatory language.

“I know that the vermin and the vultures have been taking advantage of their second glory. I am very satisfied with my time as coach. We made mistakes, but decisions have to be made and that is what my staff and I did.”

Luis Enrique has been linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job of late, which is set to be available in the summer. The Asturian coach said he wanted to go to a team that could win things, and given he didn’t see that as a possibility this summer, clearly Spurs are not one of those sides.

“I would like to go to England to work. But I don’t see myself in the Premier League in July, because I would like to go to a team there that can do important things and that is very difficult. I would not go to any Premier League team.”
