Alexis Mac Allister's brother found himself in hot water after deciding to jump on the back of a striker who was clean through on goal in the Belgian Cup.
In an act of desperation, Kevin Mac Allister launched himself and dragged down Anderlecht striker Kasper Dolberg as he rampaged through on goal.
His intervention kept Union Saint-Gilloise 1-0 up, but at the cost of being given a straight red card.
Union Saint-Gilloise, who played Liverpool in this year's Europa League group stages, kept their cool to ultimately win 2-1 and book their place in the Belgian Cup semi-finals, dumping out their Brussels rivals.
Some fans mocked Mac Allister's daredevil act by suggesting it was completely fine, while others were in sheer disbelief.
'"Got the ball, ref!"' one commented on X, formerly Twitter.
'Seems fine to me,' wrote another.
'Haha I'm dying he literally did a wrestling hold,' said one.
'Barely touched him,' said another.
One user even tagged the Six Nations' account, asking, 'what do you think?' ahead of the rugby tournament's beginning on February 2.
What makes the situation all the more extraordinary is how hard Dolberg had to fight to get in the position he was.
Knocking the ball past one player on the counter-attack, the Danish striker was second favourite for the ball but somehow got himself in pole position to reach it.
At that moment the defender decided to simply slump into his side in the hope of knocking him over, but he stayed on his feet to approach the ball on the edge of the D.
That's when Mac Allister flew in and latched onto his back, with the two tumbling into the penalty area.
Anderlecht were understandably aggrieved and will hope to get their own back when they host Union Saint-Gilloise in the league on Sunday.

Ah yess, the nastiness of Argentine Footballers! At least justice was served to give him a well deserved RED CARD unlike Paredes and other Argentines in the 2022 World Cup
