Manchester United will conduct a review into the security operation for Sunday's protest at Old Trafford which ended with the postponement of the game against Liverpool.
Fans twice broke into the ground and got onto the pitch, while violent clashes outside between the 1,000-strong demonstration and police left two officers injured.
United and the security company they employ, Controlled Group Solutions, face questions over their handling of the situation considering up to 10,000 demonstrators were expected.
Fans were able to get onto the playing surface unchallenged after gaining access through two separate entrances close to the Munich Tunnel.
Greater Manchester Police also seemed unprepared for the escalation after bringing in officers from neighbouring forces to quell the violence.
United declined to comment on whether a review will take place, but it's understood the club will look into what happened and how it got out of hand.
Club sources say it was the intention to be non-confrontational, in keeping with a peaceful protest, and that installing barricades and more heavily armoured police from the start would only have risked inflaming the situation.
They are keeping the finger of blame firmly pointed at the minority of troublemakers who caused a Premier League fixture to be postponed due to a protest for the first time.
A United statement read: 'Following discussion between the police, the Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, our match against Liverpool has been postponed due to safety and security considerations around the protest.
'Discussions will now take place with the Premier League on a revised date for the fixture.
'Our fans are passionate about Manchester United, and we completely acknowledge the right to free expression and peaceful protest.
'However, we regret the disruption to the team and actions which put other fans, staff, and the police in danger. We thank the police for their support and will assist them in any subsequent investigations.'

Yeah it was a 10 year deal and not 7,I was wrong on that one. Their leveraged buyout is legal but ethically wrong, they didn't use their own money to buy the club, they used club asset to get the loan and and are paying to JP Morgan more money on interest than what they got from them in 2005. We are in huge debt bcoz of them and they need to leave
I think only the new fan boi don't understand the pain mate...

I know the history of how they bought the club and it’s 100% legal. Also we got rid of Chevy for team viewer and Woodward who you hate so much got that deal for us. 235 mil over 5 years. Largest in epl history and he got this in the middle of wuhan! Adidas will not drop United. They’ve made billions off the club. I bet they even pay more than Liverpool’s Nike deal, but I thought we signed a 10 year contract with adidas in 15 or 16, did we not?

I am not talking about ESL or top12 clubs,TV Rights is not the only way clubs make money,I am talking about Adidas,Chevrolet,Kohler and tons of other sponsers who are associated with the club. Adidas kit deal expires next year,if fans keeps protesting Adidas would be unwilling to be asssociated with the club and so do other sponsers that's how this industry works. If you think ESL is the only reason fans are angry then u r not aware of Glazers ownership of the club . Read this Glazer_ownership_of_Manchester_United

Lol if the fans drop the value of the club it will only hurt the fans. Also we will not lose any sponsors over this. That would mean the top 12 clubs in the world will lose sponsors lol. That’s not going to happen. People are not going to stop watching games. You do realize 11 other clubs did this too right? I don’t see their fans acting like trash in the streets. Or breaking into their club to delay a game and maybe cause a point deduction! The fans that did this all need to grow up

Violent protest from crying children. Absolutely pathetic and solves nothing. You drop the value of the club with negative media coverage. Glazers will not sell for cheap... this is counterproductive

Yeah it's a good thing, the very motive of this protest was to let the world know that we are unhappy with our owners,by letting sponsers know it is higly likely they will think twice before being associated with Glazers and will try to stay out of Man Utd,Glazers would start losing money and if the market value of our club keeps falling they will sell the club. I don't condone the individuals who were throwing flares at the stands and the one who damaged the tfipod but it was only handful of people, most of them protested peacefully.

Glazers have not invested their own money at the club and in the meantime have taken a billion out of the club. Old Trafford is a traditional ground and in serious need of a rennovation, the roof was leaking last year but we know these greedy b*****d don't care about our club. The fans are righfully angry, even if u don't angry with the way some of them entered the pitch u can't deny that it was so easy for them to enter,it would not happen at other ground as either they have rennovated their ground or upgraded facilties to the point where they don't have to worry about these stuff.
