Manchester United fans were given an early glimpse of new signing Diogo Dalot's squad number for the coming 2018-19 season this week, following a leaked video from goalkeeper Joel Pereira.

The youngster took to social media on Monday to show fans a video of Dalot standing in the new home shirt of the Red Devils.

The defender could be seen giving a thumbs up to the camera before jumping and spinning around to reveal the No 20 printed on the back of his shirt.

Captioning the post, Pereira showed his excitement to see his team-mate get his United career under way, writing: 'Soon on the pitch.'

Dalot is set to follow in the footsteps of club icons Robin van Persie and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who sported the famous number during their years at Old Trafford.

Since his £17.4million arrival from Porto this summer, Dalot has become close friends with Swiss-Portuguese goalkeeper Pereira and the duo after often seen spending time together away from the training pitch.

His United career has been stalled so far, after suffering with an ongoing knee injury which curtailed his season with Porto.

Dalot is one of just three signings for United this summer, along with the likes of Brazilian midfielder Fred and back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant.

Tensions have risen at United as a result of the minimal activity, with manager Jose Mourinho at loggerheads with chief executive Ed Woodward.

Sportsmail understands Woodward is reluctant to release more funds to Mourinho, who has spent more than £70million so far on Fred, Dalot and Grant.

United’s squad will be strengthened when Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard, among others, return from their post-World Cup holidays but Mourinho is anxious to recruit further and presented Woodward with a list of five names ‘a few months ago’.
