Man Utd and Arsenal offered chance to sign Jonathan David in cut-price transfer

Jonathan David has been linked with a Premier League move across several recent windows, and now the Lille striker could be available for a knock-down price.

Manchester United and Arsenal have both previously been mentioned in connection with the Canadian international, who has scored 84 goals in four seasons since moving to France. Last season brought 26 of those goals - the joint-best season of his career - with 19 of those arriving in the league as Lille finished fourth.

Both Premier League sides are in the market for a new frontman. United looked light up front last term and have since confirmed the exit of Anthony Martial, while a prolific scorer might have been the difference between first and second for Mikel Arteta's Gunners.

Benjamin Sesko was linked with both teams, only to commit his future to RB Leipzig. That could open the door for a move for David... and a cut-price one at that.

According to talkSPORT, intermediaries working on behalf of David are keen to bring him to England. The 24-year-old has just one year left on his Lille contract, and the same outlet reports that he could be available for as little as £30million.

David, who joined Lille in 2020, has 28 goals in 46 senior appearances for Canada - the second most in history for the country's men's international team. He bagged nine goals in qualifying as Canada made it to the 2022 World Cup, though they were eliminated at the first hurdle in Qatar.

He was part of a Lille side which won Ligue 1 in 2020-21, pipping Paris Saint-Germain to the title. The following season, he scored three times in the Champions League as the team topped their group before losing to Chelsea in the round of 16.

David's links to the Premier League go back several years, with a 2022 interview with Sky Sports further fuelling the fire. "Yeah, you know for me, I was always watching European football on TV. So, for me, that was always the goal. For me it was, I only wanted to go to Europe," the US-born star said.

"The next step is always growing, having more ambition, a bigger club I think. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life. So I think if I had the chance to do it, I'll go for it for sure.

"I think they're two different leagues [the Premier League and La Liga]. But I think I can adapt to both for sure. And I think with the experience that I've had here in France, it will help me a lot if I need to adapt to some place else a lot faster. So yeah I think both leagues suit me."
