Manchester United are considering extending Mason Greenwood's contract this summer to stop him being sold at a low price, according to a new report.
Greenwood, 22, impressed during his year on loan at LaLiga side Getafe, scoring 10 goals and making six assists on his way to being named Player of the Season.
It has attracted interest from some of Europe's top clubs, including Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, Italian clubs Juventus and Napoli, and Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
The i reports that Man United may extend Greenwood's deal at Old Trafford, in a bid to ward off lowball offers for his services this summer.
Greenwood is currently under contract at Man United for one more year, but they have a one-year option, which they may utilise in a bid to push up their asking price.
Man United's new co-owners Ineos are looking for a quick sale of the forward to boost their transfer kitty, but they are not looking to sell any of their players, including Greenwood, for 'fire sale prices'.
United reportedly want £40m for the £75,000-a-week forward, a similar fee to that which Chelsea paid to buy Cole Palmer from Manchester City at the end of last summer's transfer window.
Greenwood has not played for Man United since January 2022, after he was arrested and later charged in October 2022 with attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault. The case against him was dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew.
United received backlash following speculation that Greenwood could re-join the squad following an internal investigation.
Their leadership team concluded that releasing the player from his contract was not an option, but would instead seek a future for him away from Old Trafford - starting with the loan to Getafe in September 2023.
Greenwood denied the allegations, and has not been convicted of any offences.

He has an option. He can simply refuse to sign and see out his contract.
You don't understand contact rules. United have all the power to extend the additional one year whether the player like it or not. Go and read more about such situations. If United didn't want to extend the additional year, the player cannot force them to, but if the player didn't want to sign, the Club can force him to sign by simply triggering the option, it's in the contract.

The forward should be rotated between Greenwood, Rashford, Gernacho, Sancho, Hojlund, Amad and Anthony. A good manager will be able to rotate them wisely. Just get good defenders, an additional 9 and a good central midfielder to work with Bruno... GGMU 💪😎

He has no option to reject extension of a one year contract which is in the power of the Club man U. Man United have the 100% power to extend his contract by one more year which Greenwood cannot do anything about.
