Man Utd fans get soaked during EPL defeat as Old Trafford's roof leaks

Manchester United fans were left soaked as rain poured down through their leaky roof during Saturday's clash with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

As Erik ten Hag's side suffered a second consecutive home defeat courtesy of a first-half goal from Joachim Andersen, supporters watching on in the stands were left quite literally under the weather.

Sharing their experience from the Stretford end n social media, a supporter shared a video on social media of fans being pelted by rain coming down through the ground's leaky roof.

The post, which was liked by Gary Neville, questioned why the roof of the stadium has not already been fixed by the clubs owners: 'It was a wet one at Old Trafford today. The Glazers need to invest in fixing the roof of the stadium.'

Another fan agreed: 'The Glazers will never ever invest in Manchester United. Can’t bloody wait until Manchester United is invested.'

A further United supporter wrote: 'I was getting dripped on too. s*** stadium, s*** football, 50 plus quid a ticket! Think i'll give it a miss from now on.

Another added: 'We need get them out, knock it down and start again from top to bottom.... A lick of paint isn't the answer.'

This isn't the first time the Premier League's largest capacity stadium has been criticised for being left in a state of disrepair.

The leaky roof has previously become overwhelmed due to rain causing let torrents of water to rushing down, with a clip prior to the Manchester derby in 2019 going viral on social media as a concentrated stream of water rained down on a section of the stand.

Last year the club tasked a member of the ground staff to serve as a leaks inspector, with the aim of identifying and repairing leaks around the historic ground as they occurred.

A full redevelopment on the stadium has been on the cards for several years, although it remains to be seen when work begin, with the complexities involved compounded by the club's potential sale.

'It's a very complex engineering challenge to deliver,' United executive Richard Arnold told the BBC in 2018.

'It would be a multi-season challenge and it isn't certain that there's a way of doing it which doesn't render us homeless.'
