Bruno Fernandes has been urging Manchester United to complete a deal for Sporting Lisbon's Nuno Mendes, in a move that could see Alex Telles used as a bargaining chip.
The Lisbon left-back has impressed this season and United are eyeing him up as a potential addition when the transfer window re-opens this summer.
Fernandes, formerly of Sporting Lisbon, has been pushing for the Red Devils to make an offer for Mendes - but Telles could leave Old Trafford after just one season as a result, according to Record.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will already feel comfortable with his left-back options.
Luke Shaw has impressed again this season with the first-choice with Telles proving to be a talented back-up as well as Brandon Williams, who sits on the fringes of the squad.
However, despite Telles' contributions since his arrival from Porto last summer, he could be making his way back to Portugal sooner than he planned.
The 18-year-old Mendes has become an in-demand target for some of Europe's elite with his performances this season in Primeira Liga.
And Fernandes is now trying to pull strings behind closed doors in order to get United at the front of the line for Mendes' signature.
According to the report, the Portuguese club want around £34million for the left-back and United will look to slash the price by considering Telles in a swap-deal.
Whether United will listen and follow the instructions of Fernandes is not yet known but they will not want to risk upsetting their talisman, who has registered 16 goals and ten assists in the Premier League this campaign.
Solskjaer is also wanting to bring in competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, with Norwich's Max Aarons and Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier being considered.

This dude is a different player since Sir Alex retired as Man Utd head coach. He is a leader off and on the pitch. He is very close to Ole Gunnar and staff. He is very friendly and brilliant. He speaks Portuguese, Italian, English and French but not so fluent. He is the player who works as an interpreter to Ole Gunnar for other foreign players like Fred, Telles, Amad and others. He also works like a scount and football director. Our Bruno we hail thee

We have two gifted leftbacks why on earth should we sell Telles for another left back if Telles himself is a great Leftback, who even helped Luke Shaw improve.Telles himself has not bn given enough time and every time he comes on he do great, and his crossings and over laps are great.I dont understand the need for other left back, while we even have Brandon as a third option. Pls lets stop that before we get another tallented player warming the bench like Donny van De Beek does currently. If there is any other team that want to buy that left back from Sporting Lisbon then let them buy instead of us buying and wasting that talent.Ole doesn't know how to rotate his players well, even substitutions he makes are awful. No pls let that player stay at Sporting Lisbon or let other Team who need him buy him.Right now we should concentrate on Right back and a Striker upfront.
