Manchester United top list of the best atmosphere for home fans

Manchester United have surprisingly been voted as having the best atmosphere in the Premier League, by match going fans.

Over recent years, it's fair to say that United have been well known for many things but making Old Trafford into some sort of fortress is not one of them.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson hung up his chewing gum a run of managers have seemingly managed to break every record that the legendary Scotsman, who has no interest in the current title race, built up.

At times, it felt like whoever the opponent was at the 'Theatre of Dreams' was met with a stat they hadn't won their since 1949, only to smash that record to bits, whether it be David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge.

Erik ten Hag has certainly had a good start to bringing some better times back to United, not that their rivals will be particularly pleased by that notion.

Life at Old Trafford still isn't that great for match goers, with a disgusting video of a lot of them having to walk through a 'flooded' toilet floor during a recent match.

However, fans of away sides have clearly decided to ignore the problems at the ground, having voted it as the place with the best home atmosphere.

Cenuwide conducted a survey, on behalf of Midnite, of match going away supporters, with 20.46% of those questioned putting United's home at the top of the list for home atmosphere.

Their rivals Liverpool came in second, with Arsenal in third and Newcastle United and Chelsea making up the rest of the top five.

40% of them picking Old Trafford as the best.

In previous years the Emirates Stadium also would have been questionable on that list but, almost as if the two things are connected, success has certainly brought the noise back to north London.

Footage of the fans acting more like European counterparts at a recent game went viral, with claims that it's part of a 'different Arsenal.'

Whilst those grounds are the best in the league, the 1002 fans asked voted Bournemouth as having the worst atmosphere, with Fulham, Wolves, Southampton and Brentford making up the bottom five.

A spokesperson for Midnite said, "Old Trafford is getting back to its known capabilities of being a fortress like it was back in the Sir Alex Ferguson days, as is the Emirates with Mikel Arteta’s title charge.

"It’s good to see Liverpool’s home crowd is not fading despite the relatively poor season they’re having, there’s a reason why teams collapse famously in Liverpool and the crowd have a huge factor in being the 12th man.

"Bournemouth’s tiny stadium is great for being up close to the pitch, but the lack of atmosphere struggles to boost their players in getting many points, which could be the defining factor in the relegation race this season."
