As one of the most respected figure in Argentine football history, Humberto Maschio has a large audience whenever he speaks, and the 87-year-old has made clear that despite having watched Alfredo Di Stefano, Pele, Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff, he believes Lionel Messi is the best ever.
The Argentine has long been criticised in his own country for not producing on the international stage the kind of team success he has dragged Barcelona to, but Maschio remains committed to his opinion.
"I saw Di Stefano, Pele, Maradona and Cruyff, but the best is Messi," Maschio explained in an interview with Clarin.
"I saw all those greats and played against some of them, but for me Leo is the best of all.
"The speed of football at the time of those players was slowly, they were still geniuses and huge players in their own eras, but just analyse Messi's goals, he doesn't run much on the pitch but when he does he has the great ability to keep the ball stuck to his feet, it's fantastic."

He scored 756 official goals and not 1200+. Pele counted 500 of the goals he scored against amateur sides, against army teams and even friendlies so that he could say he scored 1209+ goals but reality is different. Pele was great but not as great as people make him out to be.

its always easier for the other footballers tk accept that Messi is better than then because he was born with the talent to rule the football world. Its impossible for the same footballers to admit Cr7 is better than them because he put 3 times more work where they barely and 10 times more work where they actually practiced. Its easy to say someone is better than you because he was born that way. Its not easy to say someone Is better because he trained to surpass you.
