Mbappe OUT of training as sickness bug rips through France camp before opener

KYLIAN MBAPPE was absent from France training as Les Bleus battle a virus in their squad.

The France captain, 25, was one of two players to miss their public training session in Paderborn - alongside Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman.

A number of players have been struggling with flu since the squad gathered in France before travelling to Germany to prepare for Euro 2024.

Ousmane Dembele, the Paris Saint-Germain winger, revealed that he had been suffering but is hopeful that everyone will be recovered soon.

He said: "For me I am a lot better.

"I had the flu last week and I was the first one but I feel a lot better now.

"The team is a lot better. Everyone will be okay in a couple of days."

Manager Didier Deschamps is also understood to have been struggling with illness.

France begin their Euros campaign on Monday when they take on Austria.

They then face Netherlands four days later, before rounding off their group-stage matches against Poland on June 25.

Deschamps could become the first man to win the Euros and World Cup as both a player and manager.

But when asked whether that was an added incentive heading into the tournament, he said: "No, that's not a motivation.

"The objective is around the French national team in terms of what we've achieved and what we're capable of achieving.

"There are other nations who start out aiming to win, as is the case in competitions like the Champions League.

"Each year seven or eight teams have the objective to win it, and only one team can. It's the same here and it doesn't come down to much."
