Kylian Mbappe has now insisted that Lionel Messi is 'the best player in the world' after saying earlier this year he has often picked Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of his Argentine team-mate.

The PSG forward scored twice in the 4-1 win against Club Brugge on Tuesday night, as did Messi who has been his team-mate for four months now since his free transfer from Barcelona.

It hasn't been plain-sailing for the duo alongside Neymar up front but the trio are showing signs of form and Mbappe seems to have now made his mind up on who he rates highest in the Messi-Ronaldo debate.

'It's easy to play with Lionel Messi,' Mbappe said after the Champions League win.

'He's the best player in the world. He won the Ballon d'Or a few days ago. He scored two goals today, he is happy, and I hope he will help us in the future.'

However, in an interview with Spanish paper Marca in February, Mbappe admitted he has rated Ronaldo slightly higher from time to time.

'From one year to the next, my choice changes between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,' Mbappe said.

'Even if I have to admit to picking Ronaldo more often. I loved him when I was younger.

'He is a hero from my childhood and it was amazing to meet him when I visited Valdebebas.'

Messi won his seventh Ballon d'Or in Paris last week, while Ronaldo is currently on five golden balls.
