Thomas Meunier has bullishly denied the suggestion that his tackle on Eden Hazard in 2019 is the reason for his continuous injury problems since.
During a Champions League game between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, Hazard went down injured after a coming together with his compatriot, and he has suffered with consistent setbacks ever since.
Speaking to RTBF, Meunier was asked if he thought that Hazard's ongoing problems are down to their collision and that ankle injury.
"Yeah, that's it," he sarcastically responded. "
I went to train with [Real] Madrid last week and made another big tackle on Hazard."
The full-back, who now plays for Borussia Dortmund, explained his true feelings at the time of the incident.
"I'm really sad about it," he said.
"I tried to contact him straight after the game, but I couldn't get through to him.
"After, I saw two or three of his teammates who told me that he was really in pain. I crossed my fingers and hoped that it wasn't too bad. If there's one player I didn't want to injure, it's Eden.
"I hope it'll be nothing. I've never wanted to harm him. He's been finding his best form. When Real Madrid call you it's not by chance, he's a very good player."
