Micah Richards has insisted that this season's Manchester City side are just two games away from being ranked amongst the greatest Premier League teams of all time.

Pep Guardiola's side celebrated lifting the coveted trophy for the third consecutive season by defeating Chelsea at the Etihad courtesy of an early goal from Julian Alvarez.

The Spaniard rested a number of regular starters for the fixture, with the Premier League title already secured following Arsenal's defeat by Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

After outlasting the Gunners in a spirited title race, City now turn their attention to the FA Cup and Champions League final clashes with Manchester United and Real Madrid respectively, with the club close matching the historic feat Sir Alex Ferguson achieved with United in 1999.

Speaking following the club's victory on Sunday, former City defender Richards claimed the team's successes this season have left them on the verge of immortality.

'Under Wenger Arsenal were exceptional. I just think with City team they've done stuff we've not seen before, inverting full-backs, fitting Haaland in, bringing though [Phil] Foden, [Cole] Palmer and [Rico] Lewis,

'if they win the treble they have to be top two [Premier League teams of all times]. Pep's already won the Champions League but it would be the icing on the cake.'

Jamie Redknapp was hesitant to compare Guardiola's side to Premier League teams of years gone by but agreed that City are unmatched in the current era.

'The way the game is now, the way you can pass out from the back, they are the best right now, they've done it in their own way. You can't compare eras. There are so many different facets.'

As the captain of the United side the club's rivals are being compared with, Roy Keane praised the Premier League winners but added that the side he played in could compete with them.

'Man City are brilliant attacking but they've got great pride in their defending, clean sheet today, a great goalkeeper.'

'Man City are a great team .I like watching them. It's okay to have the debate, but it's difficult to compare. I'd like to think my United team could compete against City.'

'Man City are a great team.'
