Morgan Rogers is believed to be keen to join Aston Villa after Middlesbrough rejected two bids from the Premier League high-fliers for their forward.
Rogers has been targeted by Villa boss Unai Emery as a key reinforcement this month and it remains to be seen if Villa return with a third offer for the 21-year-old, who is valued at about £10million by Boro.
Rogers has seven goals and eight assists in all competitions this term and has thrived under boss Michael Carrick.
Villa face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup on Friday, with Villa forward Jhon Duran the subject of interest from the London club. Duran has become frustrated at what he believes is a lack of first-team opportunities at Villa and would be open to moving elsewhere.
The Colombian was signed a year ago in a deal that could be worth about £16million. Though Emery gave his blessing to the agreement, it was driven by sporting director Johan Lange, who is now doing a similar job at Tottenham.
With England international Ollie Watkins Villa’s main striker, Duran has yet to start a match in the league.
While Villa are not opposed to allowing Duran to leave, they would prefer to have a replacement lined up before entering serious discussions.
Emery said earlier in the window that Bertrand Traore, who is currently with Burkina Faso at the Africa Cup of Nations, could leave in January along with defender Calum Chambers. Traore has interest from clubs in Turkey and the Middle East.
