You may know Harry Kane scored a late brace to seal a 3-1 comeback win for Tottenham against Aston Villa, but there was a moment much harder to notice in the game.
In the 40th minute, a new football rule was applied for the first time in the new season when Villa captain Jack Grealish's pass hit straight the referee.
The referee's intervention directly led to a possession change as Moussa Sissoko had the ball at his feet.
According to the Laws of the Game 2019/20, if the ball touches the referee or other match officials and goes into the goal, possession changes or an attacking move starts, the play should be restarted with a dropped ball.
So the referee just stopped the game and dropped the ball to restart it, giving back the possession to Villa.

some players will intentionally play the ball towards to referee so that they can use it as delayed tactics or call fair play inside the penalty box.

Mind you all football amateurs, the referee is part of the match playing,if not he or she should stand by the pitch just as the lines.Too much of rules can spoil soccer. We're not playing volleyball, but FOOTBALL

This new rules for me,it's a review of the pass in oldest time football(football Law of the pass). That's what happen when the ball touch the referee. This Law is part of fair play in the Old time football. For those who have played the ball that called 🏐TANGO🏐, would understand this new rules just taken from the pass. Technology has changed a lot of things in football...

This rule is good..Coz before if ball touch refree and the ball went to opposite player degree can't do anything and if that end up in goal that will be on refree but now they stop and give the ball back to the player and restart it's a good decision for me
