Newcastle defender Fabian Schar was knocked unconscious during Switzerland's Euro 2020 qualifier away to Georgia but still managed to play on.
Schar clashed heads with Georgia's Jemal Tabidze and was treated by medics.
He was left on his back after his legs buckled under him.
The 27-year-old laid motionless on the pitch, with players from both sides rushing to his attention.
There were initially fears that Schar may have swallowed his tongue.
After receiving treatment for four minutes Schar was able to carry on playing.
Switzerland secured a 2-0 victory, with Steven Zuber and Denis Zakaria on the scoresheet, while Schar completed the whole 90 minutes.
Schar has made 18 Premier League appearances for Newcastle this season after joining the club from Deportivo La Coruna last summer.
The centre back was winning his 48th cap for Switzerland.

The response of other players helping him was magnificent.

Good sportsmanship. Several Georgia players rushed towards him the moment they say he'd collapsed.

Hope theres no lasting effect. Sometimes we forget that footballers much like Boxers and UFC fighters can have life threatening injuries. Maybe because the games full of tiny dancers like lingard

UEFA surely didn't sanction this, did they?

How backward is this sport? So irresponsible of everyone - especially the coaching staff here.

No one should play on after being knocked unconscious. When will football take head injuries seriously?

Ehh!!!....if a boxer or rugby player was knocked out that's it. Ridiculous.

If he was unconscious he should never have played on. Shame on the Swiss medics that allowed that!

Where is the duty of care? Madness to let him carry on.

I thought you weren't allowed to play for about 4 or 5 days after being knocked unconscious! Be ironic if he was out of Newcastle's next game with concussion

The logic in letting him play on is beyond me, if a boxer is knocked out is he allowed to continue the fight ? Laughable.

Head injuries still don't seem to be taken seriously in football. Anyone with a serious head injury should be going off, it's just a game of football.

Should be taken off, there could have been an underlying problem inside the skull. Glad he's okay.

How can he be allowed to continue

If that's true, that's shockingly poor decision making from all concerned. When will people learn!?

You are not allowed to continue following a lack of consciousness. I'd like to know the facts here.

If he was unconscious, he should not have been allowed to continue. Staggering lack of duty of care of this footballer.
