Newcastle have expressed an interest in Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos who is on also on Nottingham Forest's list of options.
The Portuguese striker is a product of Benfica's youth system and scored eight times in 46 appearances for the club last season.
The 21-year-old scored against the Magpies during pre-season and has already notched three goals in three games for Benfica at the start of this campaign.
Ramos is valued at around £25million but there is also interest from Premier League new boys Forest as well as PSG.
Newcastle are keen to add to their striking options at the club and provide competition to current forwards Callum Wilson and Chris Wood.
Earlier in the window the club were in talks with Reims' Hugo Ekitike but couldn't agree terms with player and he has now joined PSG on season-long loan with an option to buy.
Newcastle have also been linked with moves for former striker Ivan Toney from Brentford and Benjamin Sesko - who this week agreed to join RB Leipzig.
The Toon's current striker Wilson got off the mark on Saturday, scoring in Newcastle's 2-0 opening day victory over Nottingham Forest at St James' Park.
The 30-year-old will be hoping to find the kind of form that saw him force his way into the England squad, especially with a World Cup just 100 days away.

With new owners, I thought New Castle would be dominating the transfer market or atleast make some noise, but it is all quiet. Didn’t know there were any stingy Arabs. Sadly for Newcastle fans, their new owner is one.
You’re not very bright are you. You think the new owners can go out there guns blazing and spend 300 million € to build their squad? FFP exists and it prevents them from spending too much.

It would be a good move for him. There’s a possibility that Newcastle can play in one of the lower European football tournaments next year. He’d play. He’s a decent player.

you don't understand the transfer business that's why your saying this they are restricted to little amount of signings because they spent huge during the last winter window so if they spend much again they will break the FFP rules and they might be sanctioned for over two seasons from making any transfer in order to avoid that they are trying to grow their revenue for this incoming season so they can sign more players
