National League South side Dulwich Hamlet have completed a big new signing - in a different sense to usual.

The South London club have signed goalkeeper Simon Bloch Jorgensen, who stands at a mighty six foot ten and a half.

The keeper, who the club claim is the world's tallest footballer, was paid for via funds raised by the Dulwich Hamlet FC 12th Man fan group.

Confirming the signing on Twitter, Dulwich took a cheeky dig at one of their former players, who is also well known for his lofty stature.

Answering a fan's question on how tall their new stopper is, the club wrote: 'Sorry Peter Crouch, we had to one up Burnley on this one.'

Sportsmail columnist Crouch, who recently moved to the Premier League club from Stoke City, stands at a comparatively small six foot seven.

Crouch, who went on to play for Portsmouth, Liverpool and England, among others, had a six game loan spell at Dulwich Hamlet in 2000, at the start of his career.

Jorgensen, meanwhile, arrives at Champion Hill having taken an unusual route in his career - an FC Copenhagen academy product, he has previous English football experience with Accrington Stanley and Whitehawk.

He will aim to help the club avoid a relegation fight this season - Dulwich are 18th in the 22-team National League South, five points above the drop zone.
