At 41, on the verge of turning 42, Lúcio decided to announce his retirement. The defender, who has played for the last two seasons for Brasiliense, announced his retirement this Wednesday at Globo Esporte.
Born in Planaltina, he played for many famous clubs such as Sao Paolo, Inter, Juventus & Bayern Munich. He won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil.
"It's a special day for me. Today I officially retire from football. With great pride, much gratitude to God, gratitude to Brazil, to Rio Grande do Sul, to my family, to everyone who directly or indirectly supported me during those years." the 41-year-old, who had recently been playing in the Brazilian regional leagues, said.
Lucio played 105 games for Brazil with 4 goals. He has 3 Bundesliga and 3 DFB Pokal, 2 Coppa Italia, 1 UCL, 1 Serie A & 1 CWC. He also has 2 Confederations Cup with Brazil.
