OFFICIAL: CONMEBOL to investigate Uruguay-Colombia post-match conflict

After the Copa América semifinal between Uruguay and Colombia, the families of Uruguayan players were attacked by Colombian fans in the stands. In response, CONMEBOL issued an official statement declaring that they would investigate the incident.

CONMEBOL Statement:

Regarding the acts of violence that occurred at the end of the match between the national teams of Uruguay and Colombia, the Disciplinary Unit of CONMEBOL has decided to open an investigation to clarify the sequence of events and the responsibilities of those involved.

On the eve of our Copa América final, we want to reaffirm and warn that no action tarnishing a worldwide football festival will be tolerated. In this global event, the players and the fans present in the stadium play significant roles, and hundreds of millions of spectators around the world will be watching the final. It is inadmissible for an incident like this to turn passion into violence. Therefore, no attitude that transgresses the sporting competition and the most beautiful spectacle in the world, which belongs to the entire football family, will be tolerated.
