Al Nassr officially announced that Portuguese coach Luis Castro signs as their new head coach until 2025.

The Portuguese manager replaces Rudi Garcia, who was sacked back in April. The Saudi outfit made the decision following a disappointing end to their 2022-23 campaign, where their title hopes slipped away.

Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly played an important role in the managerial change, lending his influence to the decision-making process. Castro, a Portuguese native, has now taken the reins and is expected to communicate effectively with the star forward.

The 61-year-old Castro brings a wealth of experience to Al-Nassr, having previously coached at renowned clubs such as Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk. Most recently, Castro was in charge of Botafogo in the Brazilian Serie A.

Appointing Castro will most likely lead to more transfer activity from Al Nassr in the coming weeks.

The club have already completed a move for Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic, who will join forces with Ronaldo next season. However, more big-money moves might be on the horizon for Al-Nassr.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Al Nassr are looking to link up Ronaldo with Mohamed Salah.

The Saudi Arabian side have reportedly made the first contact with Salah’s representatives. However, they might face competition from Al Hilal in their efforts to bring the Liverpool superstar to Saudi Arabia.

According to media sources, Castro's salary will be €7.5m per year.
