OFFICIAL: Man Utd legend Dimitar Berbatov announces his retirement from football

The striker last played in the Indian Super League over a year ago and officially announced that his playing days are over with a message on Instagram.

Former Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen forward Dimitar Berbatov has confirmed his retirement from football at the age of 38.

The striker, who last played for Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters in 2018, made the announcement on his Instagram page.

Berbatov, who won 78 caps for Bulgaria, wrote:

"So, someone told me I need to say something, and seeing that people were asking me, especially back home, I need to give a farewell message! So, here it is!

"Thank you to all the people who helped me develop, and became the player I always wanted to be!

"Thank you to all my former teams my teammates and my coaches and staff! It was a pleasure!

Berbatov captained the Bulgaria national team from 2006 to 2010, and is the country's all-time leading goalscorer. At club leavel, he has mainly played at Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham, Man Utd, & Fulham.  During his 4 seasons at Manchester, he won two Premier League titles in 2008–09 and 2010–11, as well as the Premier League Golden Boot in 2010–11.
